The Conservative party at County Hall is clutching at straws [Councillor Mackie’s letter EDP 7 December] when it suggests that the charitable act of granting a peppercorn rent on a building in Thetford is what is decimating the services provided by the County Council. It has nothing to do then with the austerity measures imposed by the Tories centrally or their local councillors recently blocking a proposal at County Hall to release £19m to boost front line services. Do they really believe that the good people of Norfolk will fall for this one?
